Overcomer? Overcomer.

Overcome. I am an overcomer. Since childhood I have been told that I am stupid, or incapable of a normal educational experience. In high school my guidance counselor told me because my standardized test scores were so low that I was not college material. I went to college anyway and graduated in three and a half years with a double major while doing Marching Band, a sorority, and working part-time. When I was in college a professor told me my GPA was not high enough for graduate school. I got into a very good east coast school and finished my Masters in 10 months receiving a 3.9 GPA. When I entered the working world I received my first real job through a man I was dating. The relationship was very abusive and I was told I would be nothing without him. Then I met Jesus who said, “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” I left that relationship and met a man who loved me, married me, and afforded me the opportunity to leave that job and go back to school. I’m now working on my PhD and while it is not easy as I am often told I am not good enough, smart enough, or worthy enough. I know I am because those things do not define me. Jesus does. I CAN “do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. I CAN overcome and I AM an Overcomer.
